It can be a printed volume, a digital file, or a packaged combination of text and app. The anticipated functionality of the product being delivered has changed as a result  Books are not produced or delivered in  the same way and some of the economic practices have shifted. The result is that publishers as well as librarians are having to rethink expectations and workflows. The 15th Annual BISG-NISO Forum at ALA will address how the book business has changed in recent years and the resulting questions that are emerging for the information community as a result.

Monday, June 27, 2022, 1:00pm -2:00pm, WCC-144A: NISO's Interoperability System of Controlled Digital Lending (IS-CDL)

Allen Jones

Director, Digital Library & Technical Services, Library
The New School

The NISO IS-CDL (Interoperable System of Controlled Digital Lending) Working Group began its work in January 2022. It is developing a consensus framework in support of controlled digital lending of book content by libraries, to be published as a NISO Recommended Practice. This framework will describe existing practice and define best practices for many aspects of this relatively new service model. Through a NISO consensus process, the outcomes will expand understanding of CDL as a natural extension of existing rights held and practices undertaken by libraries for content they legally hold.

This presentation will provide an overview and update of the group’s work so far and support reaction and discussion.
