With the Rise of AI Technologies, Knowledge Has a New Address
October 2026
Jeff Jarvis, Visiting Professor, Stonybrook University
September's NISO Plus Global/Online conference ended on a high note with a closing keynote by journalism professor and media commentator Jeff Jarvis. Drawing on his own work—like the recently published Hot Type (Bloomsbury Publishing Plc 2026)—as well as that of other media scholars, he situated publishing within the broader context of the evolution of print media, the rise of the Internet, and our current moment as we grapple with some of the challenges posed by the emergence of AI technologies. We loved his emphasis on how information standards are critical to how we proceed from here (although we sure have a lot of work to do!).
Thank you to our closing keynote sponsor Silverchair and to Silverchair's Josh Dahl, SVP, Product and General Manager, ScholarOne, for introducing Jeff and setting the stage for this enlightening and thought-provoking talk.
