NISO Training Series to Explore the MCP, WebMCP, and AI Agents

As AI agents become increasingly more capable and widely deployed, organizations must consider how their processes, systems, and practices should change in response. This raises a pressing question: What happens when the users of our information infrastructure are no longer exclusively human?
To explore this transformation and its implications, NISO is developing a new training series, APIs and Agents: MCP and WebMCP, the Next Generation for Scholarly Infrastructure. The series will examine what publishers, libraries, and other information organizations need to understand the Model Context Protocol (MCP), WebMCP, and their applications in scholarly communications. The series will be facilitated by Raymond Yee, a consultant and instructor whose work has spanned web APIs, scholarly infrastructure, and data, and increasingly focuses on how organizations can thoughtfully apply and respond to artificial intelligence.
