JAMA Network Releases Updated AI Guidance for Authors

The JAMA Network has released an updated version of its AI policy for authors. The revision aims to promote greater transparency with clear guidance to authors on a number of AI use cases as well as when and how to disclose them.  

The updated guidance also offers a rationale for the prohibition of certain types of AI use. Ultimately, it stresses that authors remain responsible for the accuracy of their work:

Beyond these disclosure requirements and restrictions on AI use for specific types of content, our guidance reaffirms the foundational tenet that authors must be responsible for the accuracy of all content submitted to journals, whether AI generated or assisted or produced solely by humans.

The policy, including a table listing AI use types as well as which are (and aren't) acceptable,  is available on the JAMA Network site.
