A new study of over 8,000 journal articles published by Taylor & Francis in 2023 suggests that researchers are adopting open research practices beyond policy requirements. Using an AI solution developed by DataSeer, the publisher surveyed its content for open research indicators such as data sharing, preprint deposits, and ORCID adoption across a variety disciplines and geographic regions. Over half (52%) of sampled articles included a Data Availability Statement (vs. the one-third expected), while a third of researchers in some disciplines openly shared their data regardless of journal mandates. The findings suggest that researchers who engaged in open research practices did so not just to comply with policies or mandates, but to ensure the impact of their work and to foster collaboration.
