With just over six months since this year’s NISO Plus conference, and just under six months till the next one (February 14-16, 2023), we’re happy to share some exciting updates on all things NISO Plus related!
Whether or not you attended this year’s conference, you’ll be pleased to know that all content is now openly available for everyone to clip, share, and cite. The 80 videos (presentations plus discussions, both with full transcripts) cover a wide variety of topics of importance to the information community. They include our 2022 keynotes by Siva Vaidhyanathan, Dariusz Jemielniak, Katharina Ruckstuhl, and Miles Conrad Awardee, Patricia Flatley Brennan, as well as sessions on everything from Working Towards a More Ethical Information Community and Indigenous Knowledge, Standards, and Knowledge Management to AI and Machine Learning, Building Services Around Open Discovery — and much much more. The main NISO Plus conferences will continue to be held virtually, to ensure maximum participation from around the world. But, to help keep the momentum going between conferences, later this month we are holding the first NISO Plus Forum, an in-person workshop-style event at the AGU office in Washington, DC, on September 20. The theme of the day is Metadata: Exchange, Structures, Identifiers, and we’ve worked with professional facilitator and NISO Board member, Jonathan Clark, to develop a day of World Cafe style small group discussions and activities. Our goal is to collectively identify 5-10 topics to be moved forward for future NISO work, including as topics for a metadata track at NISO Plus 2023. To ensure that we keep user needs front and center of our discussions, you’ll also hear from three researchers with very different perspectives—Dr. Ana Heredia (consultant), Dr. Kathryn Kaiser (University of Alabama, Birmingham), and Dr. Diana Marsh (University of Maryland).
Thanks to the support of AGU and our other sponsors, we have been able to keep the cost of registration to $199 for members and $249 for non-members. The other big news for this month is that we officially welcomed our NISO Plus 2023 Planning Committee! The 26 committee members — a mix of returning and new faces — come from 14 countries across six continents. They collectively represent all our key stakeholder groups — libraries, content providers, and the service and infrastructure organizations that support them. They include NISO member and non-member organizations; past and present NISO Plus scholarship winners; and Board and committee members. Regular planning meetings start in mid-September and we can’t wait to work with this wonderful team of volunteers to create another high-quality, thought-provoking, and delightful NISO Plus conference for the global information community!
