Bohyun Kim
Bohyun Kim will soon join the University of Michigan Library as associate university librarian for library information technology. Kim comes to the library from the University of Rhode Island libraries, where she served as chief technology officer and professor.
“The U-M Library is well known for innovation, for its user-centered approach to library services, and for the excellence of its staff, who have enabled and sustained the library's success and reputation over the years,” Kim said. “I look forward to collaborating with my new colleagues to further the library's vital contribution towards the success of U-M students, faculty, and researchers through the effective and thoughtful application of technology."
Kim holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy and a Master of Arts degree in Western philosophy from Seoul National University, a Master of Arts degree in classical philosophy from Harvard University, and a Master of Science degree in library and information science from Simmons College.
Her arrival at the library coincides with growing demand for digital content and services, which requires robust and responsive technologies as well as the expertise to run them.
“She brings a wealth of experience in leading library IT, and will guide our efforts to meet the university community's need for enhanced online access to all of the library's resources and expertise,” said James Hilton, dean of libraries. "She also demonstrates a deep commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and a passion for collaboration. We are excited to welcome her to our leadership team,” Hilton added.
