Training Series Topics
Spring 2027 | 8 weeks: APIs and Agents; MCP and WebMCP, the Next Generation for Scholarly Infrastructure
Led by Raymond Yee.
The arrival of AI agents has not made APIs obsolete—it has added a second class of consumer to the interfaces our organizations already maintain. This series treats agent access as an extension of API strategy rather than a replacement for it, working from the standards participants know toward the ones now forming, including MCP and WebMCP, COUNTER's optional Agent access method, rights signaling, and trust markers. Each session pairs a working example with a guest practitioner building this in production, including optional hands-on labs for those who want them.
Summer 2027 | 4 weeks: Putting AI Policy into Practice
Moving beyond the development of AI policies, this series will focus on the knowledge and practical considerations needed to implement organizational policies in everyday work. Topics will include responsible use, accountability, risk management, and translating policy expectations into workable practices.
Fall 2027 | 8 weeks: Metadata That Works: Designing for Discovery, Reuse, and AI
Good metadata must increasingly work across systems, communities, and machine-mediated discovery environments. This series will explore practical approaches to designing and improving metadata for discovery, interoperability, reuse, accessibility, and emerging AI applications while keeping context, quality, and human needs at the center.
With Gratitude
Shoutout to the NISO Education Committee
Through the years, NISO’s educational programming has benefited from the commitment, expertise, and generosity of the NISO Education Program Committee. Members have shared insights on the community’s needs, suggesting timely topics, knowledgeable speakers, and contributed perspectives that have shaped the development of our programming.
The 2027 schedule reflects suggestions gathered throughout the year, feedback from audience responses to our post-program surveys, ongoing conversations with the Education Committee, and feedback from the NISO Board of Directors. We want to sincerely thank the Education Program Committee for the time, thought, and care members have contributed over the years. Their involvement has been invaluable in helping us develop programs that are relevant to the community we serve.
We are excited about the topics planned for 2027, and particularly about the message of care, collaboration, and trust that threads through the schedule. We look forward to your participation in another year of learning, discovery, and discussion.
