American National Standards Institute to Launch ANSI AI Register
November 2026
The American National Standards Institute has announced it will maintain a register for AI systems and tools, the goal of which is to provide greater transparency and build trust as well as help users make informed decisions.
“As AI becomes part of how organizations operate and make decisions, the question is no longer whether to adopt it, but how to do so with confidence,” said Laurie E. Locascio, Ph.D., NAE, president and CEO of ANSI. “Organizations, governments, and consumers want to understand how AI systems, products, and services are developed, governed, and used. The ANSI AI Register is intended to be a trusted resource to support the responsible adoption and safe use of AI while fostering innovation and public trust.”
The register will enable AI developers and other organizations to offer evidence that their products are safe, reliable, and/or compliant with standards and best practices. Inclusion in the register does not denote ANSI approval, but applications must meet eligibility requirements. Visit the ANSI website for the full announcement and more information.
