Brandie Nonnecke Delivers Opening Keynote at NISO Plus 2026 in Baltimore

Brandie Nonnecke, expert on technology policy and Senior Director of Policy at Americans for Responsible Innovation, gave the opening keynote address for NISO Plus in Baltimore on Tuesday, February 17. Entitled “AI without the Sci-Fi: Separating Myth from Reality for Meaningful Impact,” the talk benefited from Nonnecke’s experience as a college professor, engaging attendees with humor throughout.
Reminding the audience that AI isn’t magic, Nonnecke took them through the different types of machine learning and offered practical advice on developing AI policy. She also outlined steps to take to ensure generative AI is beneficial to one's organization. The keynote aptly set the stage for the remainder of the conference program, which featured several sessions on ethical and other challenges posed by AI and AI tools.
