NISO Cultural Heritage Membership
Participate in ISO TC 349
Help shape the future of standards for tangible cultural heritage conservation
NISO is pleased to announce that members of the cultural heritage, museum, and conservation community are eligible to participate on the accredited US Technical Advisory Group (TAG) to the International Organization for Standards’ new Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage Conservation (ISO TC 349).
ISO formed TC 349 in 2024 to develop standards for terminology, technologies, and materials and equipment for the monitoring, evaluation, preservation, and restoration of cultural heritage. The committee’s work is focused specifically on the conservation of tangible objects and excludes the preservation of cinematography, photography, and content covered by the work of the ISO Technical Committee on Information and Documentation (ISO TC 46). NISO has been appointed by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) to manage the US TAG to TC 349.
Institutions joining NISO as Cultural Heritage Institution Members will be eligible to participate in ISO TC 349 activities, including attending committee meetings and voting on standards measures. (Note that larger institutions may wish to join as NISO Voting or LSA Members, who are eligible to participate in NISO's information standards work, have access to our monthly webinar series, and, in the case of Voting Members, vote on ISO TC46 ballots.)
Joining NISO
ANSI requires that participants representing the US on ISO Technical Committees be members of an accredited standards body. Please contact us to inquire about NISO Cultural Heritage membership,
