Anne,

My position is that SERU can be used on the corporate side and Springer is a publisher with HQ in Germany and we use it. The test is with a client based primarily outside the USA or with HQ outside the USA. Such clients feel they have no ties to US copyright law. And it is true that US copyright law has a lot to do with the SERU environment.

So corporate, yes, but outside the USA tread carefully.

Academic clients located in US and Canada are more the bread and butter for SERU at the moment.

I would welcome some support on this question from IFLA.

Subject: [seruinfo] Can SERU be used in the Corporate Market?

Hi,

I attended the open teleconference today regarding the draft update to SERU.  I had a few questions; however, I did not feel it was relevant to today’s topic so I am entering my questions on the listserv instead.

We have some Corporate Customers asking how they can alleviate the Licensing portion of purchasing electronic content (both books and Journals).  Can SERU be used between a Corporate Entity and a Publisher?

Does it matter if the Corporate Entity has multiple locations around the Globe?

Can SERU be used by Publishers outside of North America?

Thank you in advance for your response.

Anne
