Hi Jeanne,
I had our legal office review SERU and after a positive review asked our
usual final signatory, our VP for Finance, to agree to the use of SERU
whenever possible, which he did. However, I have some leeway,
particularly if the vendor is unknown or the resource is expensive, to
use a traditional license.
Since registering as a user we have used SERU only once, but it worked
great. We have several others in process.
With SERU, we only want to answer the following questions:
Contact information.
Address.
IP ranges.
FTE.
Exactly what product is being purchased, inclusive dates, date for
access, date for renewal.
Subscription or purchase price.
Post-termination access method and fee if any.
That's it!
With SERU, copyright laws and guidelines apply. I would never ask or
answer questions about what rights we have or what we are allowed to do.
With SERU you have all the rights afforded you by the law. With licenses
you give up those rights, or have to fight to keep them.
Thanks!

Hello -
We have recently registered for SERU, and while I understand how the
process works, I wonder if there are others out there willing to share
any information or documents or critieria about how they have
incorporated SERU into their licensing workflow. Do you have criteria
that you apply for deciding whether or not when to evoke the terms
when they are available, or do folks always agree to use SERU when the
publisher has made the option available?
Any best practice or advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Jeanne
