Hi Cindy,

I have reviewed this information and have several comments and questions.  My main question is how and to what degree do these practices either enhance, conflict with or "compete" with the practices and principles offered via the digital object identifier (DOI) identification system which is widely adopted utilized for similar purposes in the journal market.  If intending to address a different use case or purpose than DOI which is either unmet or constrained, that isn't entirely clear within the confines of the documentation provided.  Even if designed for new use cases, given the adoption of DOI in the journal market, at minimum there should be references and guidance with respect to how DOIs should be treated as part of best practices.

I welcome the opportunity to get your feedback and explore additional contribution.

All my best,

Andy W.

RE: NISO Recommended Practice: Presentation and Identification of E-Journals (PIE-J)

Dear PIE-J Interest Group Member,

Thank you for your willingness to read and review the working drafts of the PIE-J team.  After five and a half months of work, our eighteen member team now has something we think you should see.  We are attaching two documents for you to examine: 1) an introduction and 2) the body of the recommended practices.  To these, we also intend to add a glossary, an appendix with examples of good presentation/identification, and a references/resources section.

The PIE-J team would greatly appreciate your feedback by May 9 in order to keep us close to our schedule for publication and distribution.

Comments should be returned to Cindy Hepfer or Robert Boissy.

Very sincerely yours,

Cindy Hepfer
