Description of Meeting:
The 41st ISO/TC 46 Plenary Meeting on May 5 – 9, 2014 in Washington, D.C., is a worldwide gathering of experts and information specialists in records management, data exchange, metadata, and library and publishing systems.
In its role as Secretariat for the technical subcommittee on Identification and Description within TC 46, the National Information Standards Organization (NISO) will host this gathering, which will bring together between as many as 175 senior-level domain experts in their field representing more than 40 countries.
It has been 10 years since the United States last hosted this event, and we are delighted to bring the meeting to the nations’ capitol. The esteemed Library of Congress will generously co-host the event and provide space for the meetings. We are also planning a Gala Reception and Dinner at the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) featuring Keynote Speaker Vinton G. Cerf, Vice President and Chief Internet Evangelist for Google.
The 2014 meeting marks the revival of the Subcommittee focused on preservation and archival materials (SC10), chaired by the German Institute for Standardization (Deutsches Institut für Normung, DIN). We’re happy to welcome SC10 and its new members to the meeting.
The plenary week includes a mix of administrative, planning, and working group meetings. New initiatives are discussed and launched, existing projects are advanced and future developments are considered. More than 50 individual meetings are planned covering everything from metadata structures to country codes, and assessment metrics to digital records management.
This meeting offers a great opportunity to highlight US organizations and their products or services to an international audience of information leaders. It is also a prime opportunity for the US to show its leadership role to this international standards and information community.
