Survey Information recording of reference statistics

Appendix B
On Wednesday, January 06, 2010 Denise Davis said:
Dianne Carty, Martha Kyrillidou and Denise Davis reviewed ANSI/NISO Z39.7-2004: Information Services and Use: Metrics & statistics for libraries and information providers, Data Dictionary, Appendix B: Measuring the Use of Electronic Library Services to determine its continued relevance to the standard.

It is recommended that:
1. The existing Appendix B be eliminated
2. Preface narrative be added to the introduction of relevant sections to include a statement about e-metrics measurement considerations. Four sections of the 2007 standard are effected:
a. Section 4: Collections (supports entire section)
b. Section 5: Infrastructure (supports item 5.6)
c. Section 6: Finances (supports items 6.3.5-6.3.9, 6.3.11, 6.3.13, 6.3.14)
d. Section 7: Services (supports items 7.3, 7.6, 7.7, 7.8)

We also recommend left navigation links be added to related NISO standards that support e-metrics measurement (SUSHI, etc.) rather than including them at the item level within the standard.

Comments received after December 15th (as yours was) will be reviewed by the NISO Z39.7 Standing Committee for response at the following biannual meeting (as per Section 2 of the Continuous Maintenance Procedures; see http://www.niso.org/dictionary/maintenance/). This meeting will be held in conjunction with the ALA 2010 Annual Conference, on Monday, June 27, 2010.
4 Collections Physical Unit

For multi-disc CD titles, Notes 1 & 2 seem contradictory. Is a CD title containing 2 discs within 1 case counted as 1 physical unit or 2?
Is a "physical unit" the same as a "piece"?

In response to your comment, for the purpose of cross-referencing, hyperlinks for are being used in the Data Dictionary in lieu of separate listings.
