For multi-author articles where copyright is held by the authors, we can write in the copyright statement e.g. '© 2013 Chakravarthy et al.' According to JATS4R best practice proposals, we should also include the same information tagged as <copyright-holder> and <copyright-year>. But since is not an allowed element within <copyright-holder> we can't italicise et al. here.

Submitter Proposed Solution

Would it be possible to add additional emphasis elements, including , as possible children of <copyright-holder>?

Request denied.

  • The <copyright-statement> element is prose, intended for display, and may therefore contain any face markup such as italics.
  • The elements <copyright-holder> and <copyright-year> are metadata elements, intended for machine comparisons. They should contain the same information as the <copyright-statement> element, but not in a display format. In the opinion of the JATS Standing Committee, metadata should not be italicized. Formatting is almost never information.
