BITS v1.0 introduced a Q&A model which helps books and book chapters encode questions along with their answers and explanations to these answers. The Q&A subset is implemented in BITS by elements <question-wrap>, <question>, <answer-set> and <answer>, along with their underlying elements.

Journal articles also share the need to encode Q&A sessions, particularly in Continuous Medical Education articles which post questions and expect answers, which are then automatically evaluated and credited. See for example the CME section of the New England Journal of Medicine (http://www.nejm.org/doi/exam/10.1056/NEJMcme1301150). It is felt that the current Q&A support offered by BITS could serve well as the first edition of this support to JATS.

Subsequent comments from using this subset with JATS and BITS will offer the opportunity to enrich this initial model.

Submitter Proposed Solution

Port Q&A model of BITS into the next release of JATS.
