Abstract:

The I2 Working Group determined that the international standard ISO 27729, International Standard Name Identifier (ISNI) could meet the requirements of an Institutional Identifier standard and worked with the ISNI International Agency to harmonize metadata and identify organizations to be Registration Agencies for assigning the ISNI for institutions. As a result, this proposed standard was canceled and replaced with the Recommended Practice NISO RP-17-2012, Institutional Identification: Identifying Organizations in the Information Supply Chain. The RP serves as a summary of the work done on the project as well as a profile for how to use ISNI for institutions.

In September 2010, the I2 Working Group determined that the forthcoming international standard ISO 27729, International Standard Name Identifier (ISNI) could potentially meet the requirements of an I2 standard if certain issues could be resolved with the ISNI International Agency.
