Dear all,
this is a reminder for our conference call later today at 12 PM EDT:
GROUP CONFERENCE CALL INFORMATION:
Toll Free 1-888-858-6021 (US & Canada)
Global numbers can be found via
https://www.tcconline.com/portlets/scheduling/viewNumbers/listNumbersByCode.do?confCode=2583615155
Meeting number: 5061-9570
Leader PIN (to start the call): 3368-3528
One important topic will be the discussion of topics and speakers for the
lightning talks in the October meeting. Based on the Google Doc I would like to
suggest the following topics:
Metrics about the use of altmetrics
Providing some data about where and how altmetrics are currently used should be
a good starting point for the discussion
Can altmetrics be standardized?
Highlighting some of the issues and the limitations, possibly as a
controversial presentation
How useful are altmetrics without any standards?
Showing what is possible with altmetrics now, before standards and best
practices have evolved.
Provenance for altmetrics
What information about altmetrics data do we need to trust them: timestamp,
source URL, error checks, open data?
If context by discipline is important, how are disciplines defined? Should
there be a common taxonomy?
This is also relevant for citation-based metrics and usage metrics, and is
critical to provide context for the metrics provided
Article-Level Metrics community principles
Work by Cameron Neylon and others at PLOS
The remainder of the conference call will be about logistics for the October
and future in-person meetings.
Kind regards,
Martin
