Ballot Details: Approval of NISO New Work Item Proposal: RFID in U.S. Libraries Revision (CLOSED)

Ballot Description This ballot is for the Content & Collection Management Topic Committee to consider and vote upon the attached proposal to create a working group to revise the NISO Recommended Practice, RFID in U.S. Libraries (NISO RP-6-2008; available online at http://www.niso.org/publications/rp/RP-6-2008.pdf). Approval will be established when 2/3 of the CCM committee votes yes (minus abstentions). Following approval, the working group will be formed.

The related ISO standard on RFID in libraries is in the final stages of development, with final publication expected in early 2010. In order to ensure that the NISO Recommended Practice is up to date and provides United States implementers of RFID tags in libraries with sufficient guidance to conform with the ISO work, a revision of the NISO Recommended Practice is necessary.

This proposal was last discussed during the February 4, 2010 Content & Collection Management Topic Committee conference call.
